With Jimmy Butler being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dwyane Wade’s buyout agreement, the Bulls are in the process of rebuilding. The Bulls still have Robin Lopez, Bobby Portis, Nikola Mirotić, and Denzel Valentine to build around.
About the rebuild, Bulls general manager Gar Forman said, “I think we have a leg up, headed this direction, we are not starting at ground zero. I think because of the three young core pieces that we got in the trade. Some of the young players that we already have here and we need them to grow and continue to develop. Having our draft assets, as far as, first-round pics into the future, and then having flexibility. So, We would never put a timeline on it, but I think those things have set the course and put us in that position, and given us a head start as we head down that road.”
On rebuilding Coach Holberg said, “I have talked to several coaches that have been through rebuilding situations. I’ve gotten some great advice. I’m going to go out and try to get this team better everyday starting tomorrow with our first practice at 10am and our second practice tomorrow at 5pm. Going throughout training camp to see growth with our players. Again, I’ve already seen the work ethic that these guys have and the competitive nature that we are going to have in our camp.”
With confidence in Coach Holberg, VP of Basketball Operations John Paxon said, “Fred has our support. We believe watching how he has handled everything this summer, the way he and his staff have approached this with a more teaching element to it-knowing that we have young players. We’re just looking forward. I do think we can win our fan’s trust back by showing them that we can put a group of young players out there that care, and show them that there is promise ahead.”
The recent NFL National Anthem protest sparked interest on how the Bulls will react in the upcoming season. John Paxson said, “It is something we are going to talk about again and come to some agreement on what to do,” “I’ll leave it at that. We understand the magnitude of what’s going on, how divisive things are right now. The great thing about sports is how it can bring people together. The 2017-2018 will be an exciting season to see the Bulls rebuild. The Bulls will play their first preseason game on October 3 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
