As Saint Motel, the quartet band, kicks off The Taste Of Chicago with its seventies glam fair and “tongue-in-cheek” lyrics, the crowd goes wild in anticipation for L.A. rock band Weezer. Weezer starts off with one of their debut albums from 1994, “My name is Jonas” and closes out rocking to “Surf Wax America”.
To make their Chicago debut and open up for four-time grammy award winning singer/songwriter Erica Badu, jazz and hip-hop band Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue graced the Taste with a spectacular performance.
As thousands of fans stood to their feet as Erica performed on stage, she started to grove and sing one of her popular songs, “20 ft. tall” as the crowd sang and dance along with her. She sang from old school and new school albums ranging from Baduizm to 2003 “Love of my life”, and one of her most popular hits “Tyrone”.
Erica said ” Rap is what you do, but Hip Hop is how you live”.
