Message From Governor J.B. Pritzker

Perhaps attending the fair is an annual tradition, one that sparks
nostalgia when you smell corn dogs and spot the butter cow. Or
maybe this is your first time attending, and a new adventure awaits.
Either way, it is my pleasure to welcome you!

In Illinois, we are lucky to enjoy two state fairs each year – one in
Springfield and one in Du Quoin. While each is unique, both bring
hundreds of thousands of visitors from far and wide to enjoy all
that Illinois has to offer.

Behind the scenes at the Illinois State Fair, we have made significant
improvements to the infrastructure of the fairgrounds with $80
million allotted to address years of deferred maintenance. These
updates include improvements to roads, roofs and pedestrian
tunnels. The Coliseum construction includes new seating, elevator
updates, improved ADA accessibility and heating for winter events.
All of these improvements require tremendous effort from the
Illinois Department of Agriculture Buildings and Grounds crew
who work year-round to beautify the space for us to enjoy.
While the State Fair puts Illinois in the spotlight, it is only one part
of what makes our state great. Central to our success is agriculture.
It’s our number one industry with more than 27 million acres of
land in Illinois dedicated to farms. Agricultural commodities
contribute $26 billion to Illinois’ economy. Illinois leads the nation
in the production of soybeans, horseradish and pumpkins, and our
state is second in corn and fourth in hogs.

Agriculture is fundamental to Illinois, and I applaud the
hardworking men and women who ensure the industry will
continue to prosper for generations to come. I also want to
acknowledge those who make the Illinois State Fair bigger and
better each year. This team works diligently to create an enjoyable,
affordable and safe experience for all who attend, and I appreciate
their efforts.

Thank you for attending the Illinois State Fair. We hope you cherish
the memories made here, and we look forward to seeing you again
next year!
Thank you,

JB Pritzker
Governor
