The sixth the December Democratic debate will take place on December 19 at the Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and will be aired on PBS. The debate will be hosted by PBS NewsHour and Politico. Only six candidates have qualified so far and time is running out.
The Democratic National Committee has raised the qualification standards. Now, candidates must achieve at least 4 percent support in at least four polls approved by the Democratic National Convention or 6 percent support in two single-state polls in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, or Nevada that were conducted between October 16 and December 12. They are also required to have received donations from at least 200,000 unique donors, including at least 800 per state in 20 states, US territories, or Washington, DC.
The candidates who have qualified so far are:
- Former Vice President Joe Biden
- South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg
- Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar
- Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders
- California billionaire Tom Steyer
- Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren
Candidates who have fulfilled one, but not both requirements:
- New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker
- Entrepreneur Andrew Yang
- Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
Other candidates in the field that have not reached either threshold:
- Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet
- Montana Gov. Steve Bullock
- Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro
- Author and activist Marianne Williamson
- Former Maryland Rep. John Delaney
- Former Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak
- Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick
