On the Table Conversation with Single Moms at Centers for New Horizons
CS3 MEDIA NEWS | May 14, 2019
CHICAGO-On the Table was a daylong civic conversation that brought together people across Chicago and neighboring communities. The goal of On the Table is to collect thousands of memos from conversations across the region. On the Table conversation events were hosted across the city at various locations. On the Table conversations were held in homes, offices, schools, libraries, restaurants or other spaces. People shared ideas and explored strategies to improve the Chicago region. The conversations resulted in participants building new relationships, elevated civic conversations, and built genuine pathways toward collaborative action. The results of these conversations make the community more connected, informed, resilient and resourceful.
The memos collected from the conversations will be combined to form a compilation Memo to the Mayor. The Memo to the Mayor will be delivered by June 21. It will be in print and digital format. Afterwards, some hosts from On the Table events will be invited to join leaders of The Chicago Community Trust for a meeting to discuss the memo with City of Chicago leaders.
On the Table since was launched in 2014. Over the years, tens of thousands of people have engaged with On the Table. The success of On the Table in Chicago has inspired similar initiatives in more than 30 communities nationally and internationally through the On the Table Network. Everyone’s perspective matter at an On the Table conversation; no matter where in Chicago they are. People across the region have lived experiences that shape the view of our city, its challenges, and its opportunities. When people bring their personal stories and opinions to an On the Table conversation, it allows collaboration of ideas that lead to action.
