CHICAGO (CS3 Media News) Attorney Lori Lightfoot won the historical election for Chicago Mayor on Tuesday night. Attorney Lightfoot is the first African-American female to be elected to the office. Having never held public office, this political newcomer ran on a call of change that Chicago voters answered. Attorney Lightfoot defeated Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle with a landslide victory. Attorney Lightfoot addressed her supporters at the Chicago Hilton on Election night. In her speech, she talked about unity. She said, “In this election, Toni and I were competitors, but our differences are nothing compared to what we can achieve together. Now that it is over, I know we will work together for the city that we both love. Today you did more than make history; you created a movement of change.” On Saturday, March 30th Attorney Lightfoot and President Preckwinkle agreed to a post-election unity press conference. Rev. Jesse Jackson had the candidates to sign a pledge that they will attend the conference. The press conference will be at Rainbow PUSH headquarters on April 3rd.
