CHICAGO (CS3 Media News) Democrat J.B. Pritzker won the election for Illinois Governor on Tuesday night.  Pritzker and his running mate, Juliana Stratton, addressed about 2,000 supporters at the Marquis Marriott in Chicago’s South Loop.  Incumbent Governor Bruce Rauner called him to concede the race shortly after the polls closed.  In his victory speech, Governor-Elect J.B. Pritzker talked about Illinois history, its future, and thanked Governor Rauner for his service to the state. Pritzker spent more than $171 million of his own money into his campaign. He set a record for self-funding a race for U.S. governor.  Governor Rauner had self-funded a total 67.75 million dollars in his campaign since he won in 2014.  Pritzker campaigned on making wealthy taxpayers pay more in income taxes as part of a plan to move Illinois past the political bitterness of the past four years. Gov. Bruce Rauner’s role in the 793 day-long budget impasse with a Democratic-controlled Legislature devastated Illinois.  As a result, voters elected to move in a new direction.

Ahead of election day on Tuesday, Former President Barack Obama returned to Chicago on Sunday for a last minute push for Illinois Democratic governor candidate J.B. Pritzker. (Charlie Smith / CS3 MEDIA NEWS)
