The Orioles vs White Sox

The Orioles defeated the White Sox 8-4. The Orioles were hot in the first inning as they scored 5 runs. Jonathan Villar singles on a ground ball to center fielder Adam Engel. Cedric Mullins scores, and Joey Rickard makes it to 3rd. Next, Adam Jones singles on a fly ball to right fielder Daniel Palka. Joey Rickard scores. Baltimore continued their assault scoring 3 more runs in the bottom of the first. Chicago tried to rally in the top of the 2nd as Daniel Palka homers a fly ball to right field, but Jonathan Villar answered with a homer of his own in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the 5th, with Yoan Moncada on base, Yolmer Sanchez homers on a fly ball to the center field scoring 2 runs. Daniel Palka also added a homer on a fly ball left center field. The Orioles responded again in the bottom of the 7th as Adam Jones homered on a fly ball to left center field. Bottom of the 8th Cedric Mullins singles on a ground ball to left fielder Nicky Delmonico. Jace Paterson scores. The White Sox tried a final push in the top of the ninth, but couldn’t get it done. The Orioles defense kept the Sox at bay.

“There were a lot of good things in the first inning … I can go through about six,” manager Buck Showalter said of the O’s, who improved to 26-48 at home. “Actually, as much as we’ve kind of beat up a little bit on some things that we’ve got to get better at, I’m thinking about taking that first inning and kind of going through [and saying], ‘Here’s the little things we did to make that be a big inning.’ We had it stand up.”

“We both have aggressive styles,” Mullins said of Villar and himself setting the offense up for a big afternoon. “He’s kind of guiding me in terms of continuing to learn, trying to steal bases and bunting the ball in general. There’s a lot I can learn from him, and to be able to have that dynamic at the top of the order, I feel like it’ll be huge.”
